See the video above of the Sea Turtles we saw.

In Lakshadweep turtles are sighted within the lagoons only during the monsoon months and during the few weeks that follow. We saw two varieties but there are three sea turtle species that commonly occur and nest in the Lakshadweep Islands:

1. Green Turtle (Chelonia myda)

Adult green turtles are known to grow to 5 feet (1.5 m) long [4] . While individuals have been caught that reached weights of up to 315 kilograms (695 lb), the average weight of mature individuals is around 200 kilograms (440 lb)

2. Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata)

As an adult, the hawksbill may reach up to 3 feet in length and weigh up to 300 pounds, although adults more commonly average about 2½ feet in length and weigh between 95 to 165 pounds.
