Historic Saswad

“Every inch of Saswad soil has a chapter of history written on it!”   Babasaheb Purandare

Sardar Purandare Wada
Sardar Purandare Wada is said to be the oldest standing structure in Maharashtra built in 1710. It was the grand residence (Wada) built by Ambaji Purandare, a deewan of the Peshwas, Balaji Vishwanath and Bajirao I. Purandare Wada was governer of saswad area during Peshwa rule of maratha Kingdom.

Sangameshwar temple was built in 1725 and is situated on the ‘Sangam’ (joining) of the rivers Karhe and Chambli. In some pictures the rivers are flowing. I took this during rainy season so I am not sure why the rivers are not having much water.

Outside of Saswad is Purandar Fort. In this rainy day picture the Purandar Fort Mountain is hidden behind clouds. See what lies behind the clouds by clicking here
