Dunn’s Falls Photo Essay

Irish immigrant John Cooper Dunn settled on the Chunky River near Meridian Mississippi.

The rivers clay bluffs provided the material for his ceramic factory.

John Dunn diverted the Chunky River and created a 65 foot waterfall.

The waterfall powered the gristmill and a cotton mill.

During the civil war Dunn’s factories were confiscated by the confederacy.

The mill factories were used during the civil war to produce blankets, knives, hats and clothing for the war.

After the war Dunn operated the factories until his death in 1904.
